Alice A. Walker Award 

Every year we celebrate a member of our community who represents the ideals of Alice Walker: service, justice, and an independent spirit. This committee conducts the candidate search, selects the honoree, and plans the dinner.

Budget 

   This committee prepares a budget for the following year and sends it to all members for review two weeks before the Annual Meeting.

Communications 

This committee informs and educates the public through a bi-weekly column in the Cortland Standard, letters to the editor and our elected officials, our website and social media. 

Fundraising

From trivia events to merch, we're raising awareness of our League and a little money to support our work.

Legislative 

This committee follows the legislation LWVNY is advocating for in Albany and advocates for local policies and legislation that will impact residents of Cortland County.

Membership 

Members shape the character of our League and are key to accomplishing our many goals. This committee actively seeks to attract and recruit new members, retain existing members, and plans interesting and relevant topics/speakers for our monthly members meetings.  

Nominating 

The Nominating Committee  creates and presents the slate of Officers and Directors for the Annual Meeting. 

Policy 

 This committee drafts new policies as requested by the Board; reviews existing policies every five years and the Bylaws every three years (or sooner if needed) and suggests updates, if needed.  

Rural Caucus 

The LWVNY Rural Caucus was created to support League members working in rural communities, where geography, sparse population, and limited infrastructure create unique challenges for civic engagement. 

It strengthens local rural leagues through collaboration and elevates rural issues within LWVNY.

Students Inside Albany 

Every year we send one or two students to Albany for 3 nights to learn about our how our government works.   This committee builds relationships with county high schools to foster interest in the program, oversees the selection of students, and acts as the liaison with LWVNY.
